WA 5-Stand State Titles
3 October 2008
Three Springs Sporting Clays Club

Colin Johns National Sporting Clays Champion &
State 5-Stand Champion. In an innovative attempt to coordinate several Sporting Clays events and to minimise travel costs, SSAA (WA) hosted a long weekend for Simulated Field shotgun shooters by staging the 2008 National Sporting Clays Championships, the WA 5-Stand State Titles and the WA Sporting Clays State Titles from October 3-5, 2008, at the Three Springs Sporting Clays Club, north of Perth.
There was an excellent attendance of 48 competitors. While most came from WA, three Victorians, one Tasmanian and one South Australian attended. The weather was fine, but conditions were windy at times, leading to some tricky targets. Two stands were shot over water, making judging target distances even more challenging. However, six competitors managed possibles of 25s over the weekend, which was a very credible achievement given the prevailing conditions. In the Sporting Clays Championships Tony Trainor, Colin MacPherson and Paul McGowan were successful, while Trevor McDonald, Michael McDonald and Henry Burns scored a perfect round in the 5-Stand State Titles. The overall High Gun for the weekend was won by Colin Johns, with a score 272/300.
The weekend was generously supported by a number of sponsors including Rio Oceania GB Cartridges, A&S Lawns, Wesfire/Fiocchi, Winchester, Rio Tinto and Batavia Coast Firearms. SSAA provided national medallions for all grade winners in the National Sporting Clays Championships. The organisers extend their thanks to members of the Three Springs Sporting Clays Club for hosting the events and to everyone who assisted at the venue, particularly the ladies who provided the catering for this successful weekend.
