Sporting Clays and 5-Stand Queensland State Titles 2008

SSAA Bundaberg Branch was host to the Queensland 5-Stand and Sporting Clays State Titles on 21-22 June. There were 100 targets each day for each State Titles. Competitors arrived from Rockhampton, the Gold Coast, Brisbane, the North Coast, Ipswich and the Bundaberg area. The weather was fine over the weekend, although a fluctuating, cold wind tossed some of the targets around creating some particular challenges for some competitors with the variety of targets. During the weekend, the traps were adjusted for the windy conditions and the scores improved.

David Moon, Shotgun Captain at SSAA Bundaberg Branch capably administered the shoot, keeping both shoots running as smoothly as possible. With the help of fellow members he organised the setting up of the Sporting Clays and 5-Stand layouts and ensured that the shoots went well for the visitors.

Sporting Clays Queensland State Titles
At the conclusion of Saturday's competition Brisbane competitor, Peter Tobin emerged as 2008 State Champion with an excellent score of 92/100.

In AA Grade, Brett Stewart (Bundaberg) was first with 82/100 followed closely by Mike Swale (Gold Coast) 81/100.

Bradley Schmidt (Brisbane) won A Grade with a top score of 81/100, followed by Nick Harman (Bundaberg) 75/100 and Roger Willems (North Coast) 74/100.

In B Grade Ben Cox (Ipswich) was first with 71/100, followed by Debbie Young (Gold Coast) 70/100 and Ian Kirkwood (Brisbane) 68/100.

Bundaberg shooters featured in C Grade with Michael Holmes winning with a credible score of 39/100, followed by Andrew Kendall 36/100 and Ben Kendall 34/100.

5-Stand Queensland State Titles
Sunday afternoon saw AA Grade shooter Peter Tobin become the 5-Stand Queensland State Champion with an excellent score of 88/100.

The 5-Stand scores and championship points gained go towards selection in the SSAA Australian Shotgun Team, which will be finalised at SSAA Ipswich Branch during the 5-Stand National Championships on 16-17 August 2008.
