Public consultation on firearms importation regime extended to March 1, 2011, due to SSAA intervention

Dear CFAC members,

As you are aware, the Attorney-General’s Department is conducting public consultation on a number of amendments to the firearms importation regime - Regulation 4F and Schedule 6 of the Customs (Prohibited Import) Regulations 1956 (the Regulations).

Following a request from Tim Bannister, as well as feedback from other stakeholders, the deadline for submissions on the consultation paper has been extended from 1 February 2011 to 1 March 2011.

A copy of the consultation paper (with updated deadline) is attached. The consultation paper is also available on the Attorney-General’s Department website.

The consultation paper should be read together with the Regulations, which can be accessed from http://www.comlaw.gov.au/comlaw/management.nsf/lookupindexpagesbyid/IP200400519?OpenDocument

If you would like to comment on this consultation paper, please forward your submission no later than Tuesday 1 March 2011 to firearms@ag.gov.au or by facsimile to 02 6141 5463. Submissions may also be mailed to:
