SSAA National letter to The West Australian newspaper

Dear Inside Cover,
Thank you for recently publicizing the launch of the Sporting Shooters’ Association of Australia’s A Journalist’s Guide to Firearms and the Shooting Sports. As the nation’s major sports shooting and hunting organization, with more than 120,000 members Australia-wide, SSAA National is encouraged by your delight and enthusiasm for this new journalistic resource.
No doubt your colleagues at The West Australian will benefit from reading it and no longer write articles confusing rifles or shotguns with handguns as they did when reporting on the WA farmers pistol ban (‘Trenorden breaks ranks on handgun’, April 16, 2009), nor write about kindy kids being ‘encouraged to take up shooting as a hobby’, (‘Gun clubs have kindy kids in their sights’, September 14, 2007), the book explains kindy kids can’t actually get a firearm’s license.
We look forward to the new and improved West Australian.
Yours in journalistic integrity,
Tim Bannister
SSAA National Media & Publications Executive Director
